Glazed blue-green jar with three handles and rosette patterns
Clay. Syria. 2nd century A.D. Height 27.5 cm., rim diameter 11 cm.
Private collection, Osaka. This piece has a rosette pattern on the neck between
the bases of the handles and decorative molded masks of a human face on the
shoulder. The details of the masks are not clear. The slightly curved vertical
handles attached to the body have two decorative protrusions on the top. The
clay band that circumscribes the belly is decorated with a chain of
finger-pressed egg shaped patterns. The rim and the bottom have tripod marks.
