Glazed blue-green jar with four handles and decorated with molded round bosses

PDC 23133

Glazed blue-green jar with four handles and decorated with molded round bosses
Clay. Syria. 2nd century A.D. Height 27.1 cm., rim diameter 13.1 cm. Private collection, Tokyo. A chain of decorative depressions on the lower edge of the projected rim makes this a unique specimen. Also, a piece having four handles is very rare. The handles are decorated with a conical boss on the top and molded rivet-like round bosses on the middle and the lower edge. The rim and the base have tripod marks. The glaze on the surface has effloresced to a beautiful silver color.
