Conical beaker with ornamental blobs
Gilan Province. 3rd-5th century. Height 19.1 cm., diameter 9.2 cm. Private
collection, Tokyo.
A rhyton-shaped vessel of thin white translucent glass. On the upper half are
two groups of five blobs of blue glass, arranged to form two inverted triangles
opposite each other, with two larger blobs of blue glass between the triangles.
The rim is finished in an unusual fashion: it curves outward and then turns
upward. There are horizontal incised lines above and below the blobs.
