Parthia (Canada)

1874 - 1887

"The wooden ship "Parthia," of St. John N.B., 1,528 tons register, was abandoned in the Atlantic in September last, while on a voyage from London to New York, with a cargo of brick and cement, and became a total loss. The crew were rescued by a passing steamer and were landed at St. John's, Nfld. The "Parthia" was 13 years old, classed in French Lloyds and was valued at $25,000. The value of the cargo is unknown." "3390. Parthia, ship ; became leaky and was abandoned 320 miles off Cape Finisterre, September 3, 1887. Inquiry held at St. John's, Newfoundland, September 23, 1887. Vessel unjustifiably abandoned. Certificate of master suspended for twelve months." [The Nautical Magazine, vol. 56, page 1065]
